 “Imagine The Possibilities!”

@ Montclair Public Library

Welcome to this Wiki highlighting “Senior Spaces” projects in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and beyond!

The first “space” was opened at the Old Bridge Public Library in June 2007 and was an instant success.  Old Bridge seniors found their “place” in the Library.  A “space” reserved for them with books and magazines, comfortable chairs, computer, special magnifiers, and more.  It was a place that small groups could meet and interact with each other, like the Library’s Craft Club.

But those outside the Library’s walls began to take notice too!  This concept of a Library within a Library

Was nothing new; after all most Libraries have Children’s Rooms and Teen Spaces.  What was new was that the Old Bridge Public Library recognized the changing demographics which are affecting in a positive way almost every community in the United States.  What they decided to do to was to make a statement and in doing so set the stage for other to follow.

What you will find here is a variety of information on “senior spaces” culled from a variety of sources since 2007.  Now that the concept has expanded beyond Old Bridge to other Libraries in New Jersey and Pennsylvania this Wiki is always adding content.  So, we suggest that you visit us on a regular basis to see what’s new.

For those of you unable to attend the fist “Senior Spaces: Design and Showcase” held at the Montclair NJ Public Library on May 11th, 2010, you will find the majority of presentation available here from that day.

So, welcome aboard the “Senior Spaces” Wiki.  Our goal is to inform and provide you what you need to know to start your own project.  For further information contact me at:  kleiman@aol.com.
